Infection

My poor baby has an eye infection.  I think I have been bothered more by this eye infection than Haddie has. Poor thing, even the morning she woke up with her little eye matted shut she didn’t seem to let it bother her.  She was such a good baby, hardly crying at all. I on the other hand nearly lost it looking into her swollen, runny, red eye as she would grin back up at me.  I took Haddie to the doctor yesterday and was reassured that it is very normal for babies to get eye infections.  Their immune systems are very low the first 6 months of their lives and coming down with an eye infection isn’t all that uncommon.

I didn’t realize how bothered I would be by something like this.  After all it’s only an eye infection, and babies are little people who aren’t immune to becoming ill.   I guess subconsciously I  just assumed that because I’m breastfeeding, Haddie wouldn’t come down with anything.  Silly, huh!?  Anyway, I was surprised at how protective a mom feels over her little baby.  It amazes me that I hardly let my own sickness bother me or keep me down, but I can’t help but worry myself sick over this little girl.  You hear about maternal instincts everywhere, but there is nothing like experiencing them first hand.

Aww, I’m sorry! That motherly instinct is pretty powerful…it’s just amazing, isn’t it?? I am not looking forward to Sean’s first illness or owie! I hope Miss Haddie gets better quickly!
